Kast Surges Ahead in Latest Chile Presidential Poll

In the latest edition of the Criteria poll, the political landscape in Chile is shifting. José Antonio Kast has emerged as the frontrunner, garnering 30% of the vote, while Jeannette Jara follows closely with 27%.

When asked «Thinking about the future, who would you like to be the next President of Chile after Gabriel Boric?», Kast claimed the top spot, trailed by Jara. Evelyn Matthei rounds out the top three with 14% of the vote.

The key change from the previous poll is the widening gap between the top two candidates. Last week, Kast and Jara were tied at 29%, but the latest data shows Kast gaining 1 percentage point while Jara has dropped 2 points.

Other Presidential Scenarios

When asked «Regardless of your personal preferences, who do you think will be the next President of Chile?», Kast leads with 44%, followed by Jara at 28%. Matthei, Johannes Kaiser, and Franco Parisi trail behind.

In a hypothetical election this Sunday, Kast would again top the list with 30% of the vote, while Jara follows with 28%. Matthei comes in third with 14%, and Kaiser and Parisi each receive 8%.

Potential Runoff Scenarios

In a potential runoff between Kast and Jara, the Republican candidate would secure 50% of the preferences, while the official candidate would receive 32%. 18% would vote null or blank, according to Criteria.

However, in a hypothetical runoff between Matthei and Jara, the former would emerge victorious with 42% of the vote, while Jara would garner 32%.

Shifting Tides in Chilean Politics

The latest Criteria poll highlights the dynamic nature of the Chilean presidential race. As the campaign season progresses, voters are weighing their options and the landscape continues to evolve. These findings provide valuable insights into the shifting political dynamics and the potential scenarios that could unfold in the coming months.
