Boric’s Diverse Delegation: Empowering Chile’s Global Presence

President Gabriel Boric is set to embark on a groundbreaking European tour, leading a diverse delegation of ministers, lawmakers, business leaders, academics, and scientists. This strategic journey aims to deepen foreign investment in clean energy, the national lithium strategy, and productive innovation. Additionally, the agenda will address scientific and technological cooperation.

A Powerhouse Delegation

Accompanying the President are key figures such as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alberto van Klaveren; the Minister of Economy, Fomento and Tourism, Nicolás Grau; and the Minister of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation, Aisén Etcheverry. In Germany and Sweden, the delegation will also include the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Luis Cordero; the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Juan Carlos Muñoz; and the Minister of Energy, Diego Pardow. In France, the Minister of Education, Nicolás Cataldo, will join the team.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties and Attracting Investment

The primary objectives of this European tour are to promote the Advanced Framework Agreement (AFA) between Chile and the European Union, advocate for human rights, and reaffirm Chile’s commitment to international law as a means of conflict resolution. The delegation also includes prominent business leaders, such as Rosario Navarro, President of SOFOFA, and Juan José Gana, President of the Green Hydrogen Producers Association, who will work to attract investments in renewable energy, biotechnology, and quantum technology.

Engaging the Academic and Scientific Community

The academic and scientific sectors are also well-represented in the delegation, with figures such as Bruno Días, President of the Chilean Astronomical Society; Rosa Devés, Rector of the University of Chile; and Teresa Paneque, a renowned researcher and science communicator. These experts will contribute to strengthening academic and scientific cooperation between Chile and Europe.

A Comprehensive Itinerary

The tour will begin in Berlin, Germany, where President Boric will meet with Chancellor Olaf Scholz and President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. In Munich, he will visit the headquarters of the European Southern Observatory (ESO). In Stockholm, Sweden, Boric will meet with Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, King Carl XVI Gustaf, and the Speaker of the Swedish Parliament, Andreas Norlén. He will also participate in a meeting with the Chile-Sweden Academic Cooperation Platform and visit a youth crime prevention center.

In Switzerland, the President will attend the Ukraine Peace Summit in Bürgenstock, near Lucerne. Finally, in France, Boric will lead the High-Level Mechanism of SDG4 on Education.
