Carabineros Strikes a Blow Against Organized Crime: Arrests Members of International Gang

In a remarkable display of law enforcement prowess, the Carabineros, the Chilean national police force, has dealt a significant blow to organized crime by dismantling several criminal organizations involved in various illicit activities across the country. This comprehensive operation, conducted in coordination with national and international security agencies, has led to the arrest of multiple suspects and the seizure of a substantial amount of illegal firearms and drugs.

Cracking Down on Firearm Trafficking

The investigation, spearheaded by the Dirección Control Drogas e Investigación Criminal (Directorate of Drug Control and Criminal Investigation) of the Carabineros, uncovered a criminal network engaged in the production of firearm components using 3D printing technology. In a joint effort with the Fiscalía de Alta Complejidad Oriente (High-Complexity Prosecution Office East), the police executed search warrants in the communes of Macul and Estación Central, leading to the seizure of 6 machines used for this illicit manufacturing process, as well as 15 firearm parts and the arrest of 2 individuals.

Dismantling Drug Trafficking Operations

Alongside the crackdown on firearm trafficking, the Carabineros have also been relentless in their fight against drug-related crimes. In the past 15 days, the police have arrested 4 individuals and seized more than 2 tons of marijuana in the commune of Alto Hospicio, located in the Tarapacá Region. Furthermore, the Plan Operativo Intervenciones de Erradicación de Cannabis (Operational Plan for Cannabis Eradication Interventions) has resulted in the confiscation of over 358,000 cannabis plants, the arrest of 34 individuals, and the identification and dismantling of 361 agricultural plantations.

International Cooperation: Tackling Vehicle Theft

The Carabineros’ efforts extend beyond national borders, as they have established a permanent international cooperation with the Policía Nacional de Bolivia (Bolivian National Police) to combat the trafficking of stolen vehicles. This binational operation has led to the arrest of 23 individuals associated with crimes such as receiving stolen goods, forgery, and outstanding warrants, as well as the recovery of 32 vehicles reported stolen in Chile.

Conclusion

The Carabineros’ relentless pursuit of organized crime has delivered a significant blow to various criminal networks operating within Chile and across its borders. Through meticulous investigations, coordinated operations, and international cooperation, the police force has demonstrated its unwavering commitment to maintaining public safety and disrupting the activities of these dangerous organizations. This comprehensive crackdown on firearm trafficking, drug-related crimes, and vehicle theft serves as a testament to the Carabineros’ dedication to protecting the citizens of Chile and combating the scourge of organized crime.
