Vallejo Responds to Matthei: Liderazship in Politics Requires More Than Just Criticism
The Government, through the voice of Minister Camila Vallejo, has responded to the statements made by Mayor Evelyn Matthei (UDI) regarding narco-financing in politics. Recall that the mayor of Providencia said that almost two years ago, she provided 75 names, with addresses and photos, of people belonging to organized crime.
Matthei stated that we provided the complete organizational chart, a year and a half ago, and they did not do absolutely anything
. At the same time, she questioned the impartiality of the Internal Revenue Service.
Vallejo’s Response
In response, the Government spokesperson Minister Vallejo reiterated the call to respect the institution and not continue to discredit it further.
We believe that it is important for a democracy, a rule of law, rather than to doubt, without concrete evidence, the institutions at convenience, is to reinforce it
, she complemented.
Vallejo added that one of the necessary tools for the prosecution of organized crime and corruption is the lifting of banking secrecy.
Recalling that corruption and organized crime operate in secret, Vallejo stated that we need a serious commitment with proposals (…) and not just the criticisms that abound in election times
.
The Call for Responsibility
Regarding whether information was provided to La Moneda, Vallejo reiterated that the call is for responsibility rather than making statements in the air. Whenever someone raises suspicion about any type of crime, they are asked and required to present evidence
, she added.
Whenever the Government has had to receive any evidence, it makes it available to the Public Prosecutor’s Office or acts as a channel for the Public Prosecutor’s Office to process them in cases of investigations that are secret
, Vallejo concluded.
Conclusion
In summary, Minister Vallejo emphasizes the need for political leaders to make concrete proposals, not just criticize institutions. She calls for responsibility and respect for the rule of law, rather than making unsubstantiated claims. The Government’s stance is clear: the fight against organized crime and corruption requires a serious commitment and the lifting of banking secrecy.
